Couple questions game: 48 cards you print, cut and actually play

This couple questions game is a deck, not a list to scroll. Forty-eight cards across four themes, a rules sheet, and one theme where your partner has to guess your answer before you give it. The last part is what turns a pile of questions into a game with a winner.
- Cards
- 48, at 2.5 by 2.5 inches, twelve to a page
- Themes
- Memories, Future, Everyday, Would You Know
- Pages
- Five: one rules sheet and four card sheets
- Paper
- US Letter and A4, portrait, print at 100 %
- Versions
- Color, black and white, fillable
In short
Print five pages, cut the cards along the shared lines, and keep them in a jar. Draw one, read it out loud, and both of you answer.
On Would You Know cards the order flips: your partner says what they think your answer is, and keeps the card if they got it right. Whoever holds more of those at the end picks the next date night. Two cards are left blank for questions of your own.
The couple questions game in three versions
What five sheets of paper turn into
Page one is the rules, and it carries three cards of its own along the bottom: the deck cover and two blanks headed Your question. Pages two to five hold twelve cards each, one theme per page, numbered 01 to 48.
The cards sit edge to edge, so one cut serves both of them and a paper trimmer gets through a page in four passes. Nothing is written on, scratched off or used up, which is the practical difference between a deck and a chart: a chart dies the week you stop filling it in, and there is nothing here to keep up.

The deck after cutting: 48 cards in four themes.
The six rules that question games for couples to play usually skip
To play, cut out the cards, take turns drawing one and reading it aloud, and both answer. On a Would You Know card your partner guesses your answer first and keeps the card if right. Whoever holds more of those at the end picks the next date night.
Most question games never say how to play at all. Ours prints all six rules on page one:
- Cut out the cards. Shuffle each theme on its own, or mix all four.
- Take turns drawing a card and reading it out loud.
- Memories, Future, and Everyday cards: you both answer, the reader goes first.
- Would You Know cards: your partner guesses your answer and keeps the card if right.
- Whoever holds more Would You Know cards at the end picks the next date night.
- Pass on any card you like. Nobody has to explain why.
Rule six matters more than it looks. A question you would rather not answer tonight goes back in the jar, and the game carries on without anybody negotiating about it.

Cut out and face down: you draw one, you do not pick one.
Four themes, and the fourth is a guessing game
Memories: the story you already share
Cards 01 to 12.
- “What is the first meal you remember us sharing, and who picked the place?”
- “What was our first silly disagreement about, and who was right?”
Future: plans, big and small, that are fun to picture
Cards 13 to 24.
- “If we took a whole month off next year, where would we spend it?”
- “What would you name a boat if we ever bought one?”
- “If we opened a tiny business together, what would it sell?”
Everyday: the habits and small preferences that make a home
Cards 25 to 36.
- “Which household chore do you secretly not mind doing?”
- “Which sound in our home drives you a little crazy?”
- “Are you a make-the-bed person or a why-bother person?”
Would You Know: how well you really know each other’s details
Cards 37 to 48, and this is where the couple quiz questions live.
- “Guess my answer: what is my most-used word or phrase?”
- “Guess my answer: what is my shoe size?”
- “Guess my answer: what did I want to be when I was ten?”
Here the person who drew the card says nothing first. Their partner guesses out loud, and a correct guess wins the card. That single flip is why these read as couples trivia questions and the other three themes read as conversation.
The Gottman Institute calls getting to know your partner’s world “Build Love Maps” and suggests questions like favorite vacations and secret ambitions to fill in the map. Would You Know plays with the same idea. Source: The Gottman Institute, Build Love Maps.
That is the problem rule four is built against. When a guess is worth a card, you have a reason to listen before the answer arrives, and at the end there is a small prize instead of a finished form. A fun couple questions game needs somebody to be winning.
Printing, cutting and the black and white version
Print at 100 %, not fit to page, or the cards come out under size and the cut marks stop lining up. On A4 the cards stay exactly 2.5 inches: the side margins get narrower instead, so a deck printed on A4 and a deck printed on Letter shuffle together.
The black and white version drops the color blocks and prints every theme in one ink, which is the one to use on an office printer. The fillable version has two typing fields, both on the blank cards, so your own questions can be typed before printing and match everything else.
Questions about the deck
What is a couple questions game?
A couple questions game is a set of prompts that two partners answer in turns, to talk about memories, plans and everyday life instead of logistics. This one is a printable deck of 48 cards in four themes, and one theme, Would You Know, is scored: your partner guesses your answer.
What is a 20 questions game for couples?
It is a list read out in a fixed order, usually off a phone, until it runs out. A twenty questions game for couples has no deck, no themes and nothing to win. This one is 48 physical cards you shuffle by theme, draw at random and hand back and forth, and one theme is scored.
Can we play it without printing anything?
You can read the cards straight off this page, but only eleven of the 48 are quoted here. The full deck lives in the PDF, and the game part depends on drawing a card nobody has seen yet, which a screen makes awkward.
Are the questions funny or serious?
Both, on purpose. Everyday and Would You Know carry most of the funny couples quiz material, like shoe sizes and made-up boat names, while Memories and Future go deeper.
What is the 7 7 7 rule for couples?
It is a rule of thumb about how often to go on a date, and it has nothing to do with this deck. We are not going to tell you how often to take each other out. The deck answers a smaller question: what to talk about once you are already sitting down.
How many people can play?
Two. The scoring depends on one person guessing what the other would say, so a third player has nothing to do on the Would You Know cards.
Can we add our own questions?
Two blank cards come with the rules sheet, headed Your question, with four ruled lines each. In the fillable version they are typing fields instead, so your questions print in the same typeface as the rest.

When an answer turns out to be a plan
The Future cards produce real ones: a month off, a city, a skill by this time next year. Alpacto is our own app, and it holds that kind of promise as a pact between the two of you: what counts as done, by when, and coins that buy rewards you wrote for each other.
