What is on the spring cleaning checklist

Our four weekends

Weekend 1 to 4, with a Date line and a Rooms line under each. Two areas per weekend covers all eight.

Eight areas, five jobs each

Every job is printed, from “Descale the kettle and coffee maker” to “Clean out the gutters”, with one checkbox each.

A Who line on every area

One name, two names or “Everyone”. The subtitle sets the rule: “Every area gets an owner, and every task gets a check.”

Donate, toss, fix

Three columns with two lines each for what the clean-out uncovers: an old lamp, a cracked planter, a dripping faucet.

A spring cleaning plan in four weekends

The American Cleaning Institute advises: “Make a to-do list for what you want to clean, then divide it up by task or room.” The top row of the sheet is that division, written down before the first Saturday, so it works as a spring clean schedule and a spring cleaning planner on one page.

In the filled-in example, Leah, Carlos and their son Mateo, 15, clean a house in Sacramento on four Saturdays from March 20 to April 10. Kitchen and bathrooms go first; whole house and outdoor go last.

The sheet is shown on April 4, after the third weekend: 26 of 40 boxes are checked. Everyone can see how much is left, and that it ends on April 10.

The dryer vent earns its line. The U.S. Fire Administration names failure to clean as the leading factor in home dryer fires, 31% of them in 2018 to 2020. Source: USFA, Appliance and Electrical Fire Safety

Smoke alarms are a reminder here, not the schedule. The NFPA says to test them at least once a month and replace them every 10 years; the spring line catches the ones that slipped. Source: NFPA, Smoke Alarms

Every area gets an owner

None of the eight spring cleaning pages we read in this search on September 24, 2026 has a place for who does which room. On this sheet, the Who line goes in with the dates. In the example, Carlos has the kitchen, Leah the bathrooms, Mateo the living and dining room, and the bedrooms say Everyone.

The bottom row keeps the rest of the spring cleaning list from getting lost. The example family wrote an old desk lamp under Donate, a broken folding chair under Toss, and a dripping upstairs faucet under Fix. Fix lines usually outlast the four weekends, so they need a date of their own.

Questions people ask

What should I include on my spring cleaning to-do list?

The jobs a weekly routine skips: inside the fridge and oven, grout, duvets, under the bed, windows, vents, the dryer vent, smoke alarms and gutters. All 40 are printed above; cross out what your home lacks.

What is usually included in a spring cleanup?

Outside, it is the porch and steps, outdoor furniture, gutters, the garage and the trash bins. On this sheet they share one block, Outdoor and garage; in the example it takes the last weekend.

What are the top 10 tips for spring cleaning?

Three from the American Cleaning Institute fit on one page: make the list first, divide it by task or room, and pace yourself with “one or two windows (or one room) a day.” This sheet adds two more: a name on every area and a date for every pair.

What is the 5-5-5 rule for cleaning?

It has no single author, and two versions circulate: five minutes in each of five spots, or five things to toss, five to donate and five to put back. The cleaning rules section of our printables traces where it comes from.

Is there an A4 version, and can I type into it?

Yes to both: each design is a free PDF in US Letter and A4. The fillable PDF has 62 fields: 40 checkboxes, eight dates and rooms, eight Who lines and six Donate, Toss and Fix lines.

The same four weekends, as pacts

In Alpacto each area can become a task with its owner and a deadline on its weekend, and each Fix line a task of its own. The other person confirms it is done, and the pact holds the reminder instead of one of you. Accounts start at 13.

Everything described here is printed on the sheet itself, and the example comes from its filled-in version.
