A house cleaning checklist by room, with a name on every room

This house cleaning checklist fits six rooms on one page and splits each into daily, weekly and monthly jobs, 48 in all. Every room has a Who line, so the kitchen or the bathroom belongs to one person from start to finish. Print it, write the names in, and tick as you go.

What is on the house cleaning checklist
Six rooms, eight jobs each
Kitchen, Bathroom, Bedroom, Living room, Entryway, and Laundry and closets, two blocks to a row. Every job is already printed.
A daily cleaning checklist with seven boxes
Three daily jobs per room, each with a box under M T W T F S S and each a few minutes long.
Weekly and monthly jobs
Three weekly jobs and two monthly ones per room, one box each: “Daily jobs get a box for each day; weekly and monthly jobs get one box.”
Who, and the top line
A Who line in every room’s header. Above the grid: Week of, Month, and Our cleaning day, the day you set aside for the weekly boxes.
Every room gets a name
The Who line is the part most checklists skip. Of the six cleaning checklist pages from this search we read on September 24, 2026, none has a place to write who does a room.
A room with one name on it stops being a job for whoever notices first. In the filled-in example, Theo and Imani share an apartment in Chicago: he takes the kitchen and the living room, she takes the bathroom, entryway and laundry. Their bedroom is marked Both.
If the split feels uneven, the chore split calculator counts the minutes before you write any names in.

Imani writes her name next to Who in the bathroom cleaning checklist block.
The room by room cleaning checklist, all 48 jobs
A room-by-room cleaning checklist gives each room three daily jobs, three weekly jobs and two monthly ones: 48 jobs across six rooms. Daily jobs take minutes, weekly jobs wait for one set cleaning day, and each monthly job gets a single box. Below is the full text of the sheet, word for word, starting with the kitchen.

The lint trap is daily for a reason: the U.S. Fire Administration names failure to clean as the leading factor in home dryer fires, 31% of them in 2018 to 2020. It advises clearing the filter before and after each cycle. Source: USFA, Appliance and Electrical Fire Safety; USFA, Clothes Dryer Fire Safety
Light switches, door handles and remotes are weekly because the CDC advises cleaning high-touch surfaces such as light switches, doorknobs and countertops regularly and after visitors, and notes that cleaning alone removes most harmful viruses or bacteria from surfaces. Sheets are on the weekly line of the bedroom cleaning checklist because the Sleep Foundation says “most people should wash their sheets once per week.” Source: Sleep Foundation

One sheet, three rhythms: how to reuse it
The daily boxes fill up in a week, but the monthly ones need four. So put the sheet in a clear plastic sleeve and tick with a dry-erase marker. Wipe the daily and weekly boxes every Sunday; the monthly ticks stay until the month ends.
That way one page is a weekly cleaning checklist and a monthly cleaning checklist at once. In the example, it is Thursday evening: daily ticks run Monday to Thursday, and most weekly jobs wait for Saturday, the cleaning day.

Questions people ask
How often should you clean each room of a house?
On this sheet: a few minutes of daily jobs per room, weekly jobs on one set cleaning day, and monthly jobs once a month. Two points come from outside sources: clear the dryer lint filter before and after each cycle (USFA), and wash sheets weekly (Sleep Foundation). The rest is a rhythm your household sets.
How do two people use a house cleaning checklist?
Print it, write one name on each room’s Who line (both names for shared rooms), and pick a cleaning day for the weekly boxes. Tick the daily boxes as you go. Slide the sheet into a clear sleeve with a dry-erase marker, so the daily and weekly boxes wipe clean each Sunday.
What are 10 things I should clean weekly in my home?
The sheet has 18 weekly jobs. These ten cover every room: microwave, kitchen floor, fridge, toilet and tub, towels and bath mat, sheets, rugs and floors, remotes and light switches, doormat, washer and dryer tops.
What should a daily cleaning checklist include?
Only jobs that take a few minutes and pile up by morning if skipped: dishes, counters, the bed, cups, shoes, mail, the lint trap. That is the rule behind the 18 daily lines here; scrubbing and mopping wait for the weekly boxes.
What is a professional house cleaning checklist?
It is the list a cleaning company works through in one visit; MaidPro, for example, publishes a 49-point version. This sheet is for the people who live there: it spreads the rooms over a week and a month and puts a name on each.
What is the 5-5-5 rule for cleaning?
It has no single author, and two versions circulate: five minutes in each of five spots, or five things to toss, five to donate and five to put back. The cleaning rules section of our printables traces where it comes from.
What is the difference between a cleaning checklist and a cleaning schedule?
A checklist says what exactly to clean in each room; a schedule says on which day each area gets done. Our weekly cleaning schedule plans the days, and the cleaning printables page compares the two.
Does it work as an apartment cleaning checklist for roommates?
Yes, and the example is itself an apartment. Give each roommate whole rooms on the Who lines and write both names on shared ones. For other shared jobs, see the roommate chore chart.
Is there a free cleaning checklist PDF in A4, and can I type into it?
Yes to both: each design is a free PDF in US Letter and A4, with no email asked. The fillable PDF has 165 fields, of which 156 are checkboxes and nine are text lines for the week, the month, the cleaning day and the six names.

The same rooms, as pacts
In Alpacto a room with a name on its Who line becomes a routine for that person, with check-ins the other one can see. A monthly job becomes a task with a deadline, and the pact holds the reminder instead of either of you.
