In short
Each day gets one area of the home, one name and a short line for what counts as done. Daily jobs get their own box, and a big job that did not fit moves to next week on purpose. It works as a household cleaning schedule for a couple, a family or one person who wants the weekend back.
For a slower rhythm, the companion sheet below splits the home into five zones, one per week.
Pick a design: Minimal, Warm or Color
Minimal, Warm or Color. All three sit in one blank PDF, a page each, so any button below downloads the set; the filled-in example and the fillable version work the same way. This free printable weekly cleaning schedule needs no email.
What is on the weekly plan, and why
The weekly cleaning plan has one row per day, Monday to Sunday. Both names go at the top, so the sheet belongs to the people doing the work.
- Area / Task and Who. “Bathroom” is easier to own than ten small jobs, and the Who cell settles it before anyone asks.
- Done means. “Sink and toilet clean”, not just “Bathroom”. Most printable schedules leave this line out, and it ends the “but I did clean it” argument.
- Daily essentials. Three lines for the jobs that happen every day, like dishes or wiping the table.
- Can wait until next week. The big job that did not fit, moved on purpose instead of forgotten.
How to set up a weekly cleaning schedule in one short sitting
Sit down together on Sunday evening and fill it in this order.
- Write the Week of date and both names.
- Fill Daily essentials first: the three jobs your home cannot skip for a day.
- Give each day one area and one name. The heaviest area goes on the freest evening, not automatically on Saturday.
- Write a Done means line for every row, in words you would both accept.
- Move whatever does not fit into Can wait until next week, and copy it onto next Sunday’s sheet.
In the example, Sunday belongs to both of them: the area is “Reset” and the standard is “Ten-minute tidy”.
What “clean” means for the daily lines
Plain cleaning is enough for most of them. The CDC advises cleaning high-touch surfaces such as doorknobs, light switches and countertops regularly and after visitors. Disinfecting at home is likely not needed unless someone is sick (CDC).

Why a week of small jobs beats one cleaning day
A house cleaning schedule built around one big day tends to swallow that day, as one r/CleaningTips member found.
“I used to do everything every Sunday. It was a lot, and it ate up an entire day. It’s just a lot easier to do things on a rotating schedule now.”r/CleaningTips · comment in a thread on weekly schedules (post since deleted)
National data show the same pull toward the weekend: 40 percent of people did housework on an average weekend day, against 35 percent on a weekday (BLS, American Time Use Survey 2025).
A realistic plan for two people who both work gives each weekday one area and one name. Saturday stays free, and Sunday keeps only the short reset.

Cleaning zones: one area a week, fifteen minutes a day
The companion sheet is for weeks when a room a day is too much. Each zone gets one week and each day gets fifteen minutes on a timer; when it rings, you stop.
- Zone 1 · Entry, porch, and dining area
- Zone 2 · Kitchen
- Zone 3 · Bathrooms and one extra room
- Zone 4 · Main bedroom and closet
- Zone 5 · Living room
Each day cell takes the initials of whoever did the fifteen minutes, so you see it was not always the same person. Dates are written by hand, so a missed week breaks nothing. The method itself is in the guide to zone cleaning.

How to print and reuse the chart
- US Letter in the United States and Canada, A4 elsewhere; portrait, actual size, one test page first.
- To reuse it, slide the sheet into a clear sheet protector and write with a whiteboard marker.
If one of you keeps ending up with the long jobs, the chore split calculator adds up the minutes per person. For three or four people, the roommate chore chart rotates areas, and a paper chore wheel moves every person one area along each week.
