Agreement templates for couples and roommates

Five sheets for writing down what you actually agreed: a roommate agreement, a relationship contract, a sheet for moving in together, a two-way phone contract with a teenager, and blank house rules. None of them is a legal document. They print in US Letter and A4, and none asks for an email.

Agreement templates for couples and roommates: a blank printed Roommate Agreement on a table, with a pen on each side

In short

Sharing a flat: the roommate agreement. Moving in together: the living together sheet. Years in, same argument every month: the relationship contract.

A first phone in the house: the teen contract, written both ways. Two or three rules for everyone under one roof: the blank house rules sheet.

The five agreement templates for couples and roommates in this group

Roommate agreement

One conversation covering what roommates actually fall out over: money, chores, guests, noise, food, how a problem gets raised and how someone moves out. There is no head roommate on the sheet; everybody signs the same way.

Relationship contract

How the two of you really live: the home, shared money and the sum each can spend without asking, time together and apart, how you argue and how you make up. It says Partner 1 and Partner 2, with no role assigned to either, and section six is the light one, down to who picks the film.

Living together agreement

For the month you move in: whose name is on the place, how rent splits when incomes differ, who cleans the bathroom. Then how many nights parents can stay, and where each of you gets a corner. It has a calm section called If we split up, written while nobody needs it.

Teen phone contract

Two-way, which is the whole difference. The teenager gets five or six plain rules. The parents get their own, including phones away at the table and never taking the phone away because your teen told you about something online.

House rules

A sheet that starts blank. Each rule is written in three parts: what you do, how you do it, and what happens when it slips. Two adults sign the house rules sheet, and you set a date to look at it again.

The review date is what keeps an agreement alive

Agreements die quietly: signed in a good mood, then carried in one person’s head until it is their opinion again. Three of these five sheets set a date to come back. The relationship contract and the house rules each leave a line for the day you read it again, and the moving-in sheet books a monthly check.

The teen contract deals with slips before they happen: If a rule slips, we talk first is printed on the page, so nobody invents a consequence on a Tuesday evening. Nothing on the sheet is called a punishment; what it records is agreed in advance. A section called Earning more freedom says how many quiet weeks it takes to loosen a rule.

One rule of writing carries all five: put down the thing you do, not the thing you avoid. “Dishes done before bed” can be checked tonight; “stop being messy” can be argued about forever.

Questions people ask

How to write a contract agreement for a roommate?

Cover the seven subjects that cause the arguments: money, chores, guests, noise, food, how a problem gets raised and how someone moves out. Add what happens when a point is missed, sign it the same way as everyone else, and set a date to review it.

Where can I find a free template for a roommate agreement?

In this group. The roommate agreement prints in US Letter and A4, blank or as a fillable PDF, with no email form and no account; its page shows a filled-in example. It is written for the people living together, not for a landlord.

Can you provide a free template for a roommate agreement in Word?

Not in Word. These sheets are PDFs, including a fillable one you can type into before printing. If you need a .docx to redraft clause by clause, the legal template sites are the right place; ours is made to be filled in together at the table.

How to write an agreement between two people?

Write each point in three parts: what you do, how you do it, and what happens when it slips. Then two names, two signatures, the date, and a date to look at it again. Anything you cannot check next week is a wish.

When the agreement has to run week to week

A signed sheet holds until somebody has to remind somebody. In Alpacto each line becomes a pact you both see: a routine for the chores, a task with a date for the bills. Coins buy rewards from a list the two of you wrote.

What the sheets contain comes from the sheets themselves: five agreement sheets in this group, seven subjects on the roommate agreement, three parts to every house rule, two signatures and a review date. None of them is legal advice, and none replaces a lease. How we write these pages, without a named author: our methodology.
